Humanitarian Activities

It was one of those moments in a man's life that makes him stop and think - the year 1978, the event the death of his father. Dr Kurian John was in the full bloom of youth and his father's death by cardiac arrest shook him. He could do nothing to stop his death but could he not help in preventing others from suffering a similar fate?

The idea that was born in that tragic moment lingered in his thoughts from then on. From 1981 onwards he began to set aside portion of his salary. His involvement in social welfare activities which incidentally is part of his profession, and his Masters Degree in Social Work helped him towards achieving his aim to start a charitable organisation.

On 10th September 1986 Dr Kurian John Melamparambil started MELAM Charities named after his father late Sri M V John . This is mainly intended for helping the poor needy patients for their treatment. With Dr. Kurian John's personal contribution, he started the activities in a small way without any publicity. Those patients, who have approached, were given full treatment irrespective of caste and creed. He made it a point that whoever approaches will be given treatment and sees to it that they are self dependent in their health to the maximum extent possible.

The Reason for Starting the Business - Melam

As the activities of MELAM Charities have progressed Dr Kurian John found that more funds are needed and it should be generated through some venture of his own. This made him to think on that line which resulted in starting of Melam brand products in the year 1992 and which is now the largest exporting brand from India. By starting the Melam group of companies the income of MELAM Charities have considerably increased. Thus main income for this noble venture is generated from the contribution of Melam Group of Companies and Dr. Kurian John.

Thousands of patients are given treatment every month with an attachment of around two hundred hospitals. For this, on the second Saturday of every month he and his committee members meet the patients or their relatives at Melamparambil Building, Near Paliakara Church, Thiruvalla - 1, Kerala for sponsoring them to different hospitals according to their nature of disease.

Dr. Kurian John Melamparambil strongly believes that "Service to humanity is the best work of life." So "CHARITY IS OUR MOTTO."
